Like what are the necessities?
Bathroom supplies (toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, shampoo, brush, tweezers, hair gel if you use it, and makeup if you use it), clothing (socks, at least 4 shirts, at least 4 pairs of pants, a good jacket or coat), shoes (maybe tennis shoes and boots), an umbrella (good idea to have one of those small fold up ones), a small blanket, some chewing gum, bottled water, granola bars or other dry snacks, a book or too for the journey, a camera, a cell if you have one, and money.
Gracie is right, take your everyday needs, and something for entertainment. When my family comes from Colombia, they usually bring things that are only found there (exotic foods, etc.). Usually something to show your Canadian Pride (bracelets, t-shirts, hats, etc.). Take passport, money, and other legal paperwork that you might need.
Bring clothing to stay warm in if your going to be outside it's really cold and bring your normal things you need to get ready, like you toiletries.
Well your things that you use everyday. Like clothes (obviously), a flat iron, lotions, deoderant xD, cell phone charger, ipod, etc. :D
