Breeders giving hard time??

Why do breeders give you such a hard time when you are a noob ( means new ) to the showing world like for example: You find a breeder with great show puppies nice topline etc. when you ask them why did you decide to do this breeding? how did you achieve puppies with such a great topline? Do you have any advice for someone new to the show world? how does your male compliment your female etc. stuff they don’t want to answer those questions just questions about their puppies for sale. when you just want to go into showing doing it the right way. so I’m guessing is they are afraid to help you cause they think you can make better puppies then theirs? or they are being very protective of their lineage? this isn’t a contest we are all just trying to better the breed this isn’t about money or anything. this is FOR the breed if you really cared for the breed you would help educate people on the right way of going into showing etc. This could help tone down the puppymils, dogs in shelters etc. I understand everyone isn’t for the breed their are people just for the money. What are your thoughts on these types of breeders? if you’ve had experience with them I would love to hear about it.

Yes to what Phrannie said, It is very competative. Even breeding. As Phrannie said get some books and do some reading. It take a lot of work to get things perfect and you still may not end with a show quality dog. I know you want to learn and people will forget how hard it was for them to get there foot in the door and how hard it was to learn and get respect from other “show” people, I would suggest even going to a show and rubbing elbows with people and find out how they are put in there classes and what the judge is looking for. I took a online class from Penn Foster for Veterniary Assiatant and I have a lot of material on this subject and I would recommend getting a book or going on line and reading as much as you can, I would say for the most part in does take a lot of money and time to get involved it showing dogs, and not all dogs are made for the show ring.

Well…it IS a highly competative hobby…

If you’re trying to learn about breeding, maybe first do some studing of genetics…get books of the breed you’re interested and and really look the winning dogs over…a winner is more than a “good topline”…from it’s toes to it’s teeth, it is the dog who most closely fits the standard.

There are also many very good breeders who know their genetics, breed to better the breed, yet aren’t completely interesting in getting their pups into show homes. These breeders may be more generous with what they know…

I would suggest, however, that you go with specific questions…not “just tell me everything you know”…you want to appear interested enough to have done much research on your own.
