Would it bother you if your kid turned down your offer for a graduation gift (a car) because they wanted to buy it themselves when they earned enough money?

Answer #1

No way, i would be proud to have raised such a responsable and goal oriented kid.

Answer #2

No…..I realize there is freedom in standing on your own….some parents feel they have some control by waiving the wallet….

Answer #3

I would feel proud… and relieved. lol. :)

Answer #4

I said the same thing to my parents, mostley because i hate/ meaning always angry with them. I didnt want anything from them and never plan on seeing them again unless my girlfriend makes me. Not wanting a grad gift means they dont like you and if you weren’t family they would never want to talk to you again. This is my experience and may not be the case with your situation, but if it is, either get his a nice car or get him something else, do not offer to buy something for him! that only makes it worse its not a gift, its ill buy you it if you want.

Answer #5

No, but damn. I’d take the car. Cause once you’re really on your own and have rent, water bills, electric bills, gas bills, car payments, car insurance, pets, landscaping fees, homeowner fees, and credit card bills…you’ll wish you took the free car.

Answer #6

I was talking about my parents. I dont hate them but that’s kinda my point. I was wondering if that would be insulting. So apparently it would.

Answer #7

It would not be insulting. You could however give them an example of something else you might like as a gift. If you will not be living near them perhaps you could suggest plane tickets so you could visit during the holidays. Or, tell them they did such a good job raising you that you want them to use the money to treat themselves for a job well done.

Answer #8
