What can cause blood in your stool, and when you wipe?

Is it serious? The blood is bright red. Could this just be from straining or something? I don’t think it is far up in the digestive tract…since the blood is bright red.

well,it is serious, u should see your doc asap, and i’ve heard so many cases of it,generally piles is the reason, don’t know in your case but ya,as i said consult the doc.

It could be haemorrhoids or fissures…I would say this is most likely the cause, given the blood when you wipe. Other, more serious, causes can be colon cancer or ulcers, but I doubt that’s the problem here. Try a stool softener (Metamucil is great) and give it a few days…the bleeding should subside.

Oh, okay…thanks! :)

have you had red beets? it can also cause it to turn blood red! another would be if you were really constipated & were pushing too hard…could have caused a little friction unless we are talking massive blood rather nicks of drops of blood.

if you have any irritating & discomforting or burning sensations…I would recommend heading out to the nearest pharmacy, cvs, walmart or walgreens for a medicated over the counter thing called tucks! what it is is medicated pads to ease that uncomfortable burning sensation so you may feel more at ease!

hope this helped.

Thank you Temptress.. :) (it’s not me this question is for)…but I think we are just going to wait…and see if it continues. There isn’t any pain…so if it continues for more than a day…I think we will go to the doctor. :)
