but if you think about it, your heart beats on average 72 bpm, imagine any other muscle trying to do that much exercise every second of the day, for your whole life? thats 259200 times in an hour, have you ever tried doing that many weights with your quads..
I know your credentials...
When I was at the RVH in Montreal and as an Anesthesia Tech. I did a 12 hour case where a micro-vascular surgeon wrapped the latissimus dorsi around some kids forearm...

The gluteus maximus or buttock muscle (i.e. your bum) is the largest.
The thigh is actually composed of several over lapping muscles.
The biggest muscle in terms of bulk is the gluteus maximus, however the largest in terms of surface area is the latissimus dorsi.
I probably have a slight advantage - my degree is in anatomy. And latissimus dorsi happens to be my favourite muscle!
i would say the muscle in the thigh but i am not sure what that certain muscle is called....(:
No it is one of the quadriceps (thigh) muscles- the vastus medialis if I remember correctly...
