Monitoring my diet & nutritional intake has always been very important to me. Now that I'm interested in controlling my diet, what should I do / and how should I go about getting a handle on what I'm eating?
Diet and nutrition are very important to me as well. I schedule my nutritional intake five days a week and on Saturday and Sunday I'll splurge. Make sure you have a good breakfast in the mornings to keep you from getting as hungry the rest of the day. I suggest for mornings: eggs or egg whites, fruit, yogurt, granola, rice chex cereal, etc.; Lunch: salad, wheat sandwich, fruit, etc.; Dinner: grilled chicken or fish, vegetables, brown rice, salad, etc. It's also good to snack in the middle of the day as well on fruits, raw vegetables, nuts(unsalted), and trail mix. Having a snack inbetween meals keeps you from over eating at lunch and dinner. Just remember, look for natural foods. I try to stay away from preserved or fried foods.
In addition, drinks are a major part of a healthy diet as well. Limit your intake of sodas if you drink them a lot. I only drink one soda can a week and it's C2 coke (it's half the calories and half the sodium), which is great because lots of sodium tends to make people bloated (diet sodas contain a lot of sodium). Drink lots of water. Water is mostly what I drink, and if you're not used to drinking it, once you start it's hard to stop which is great! As far as alcohol, wine is your best bet, but light beer is ok too. I don't drink too much alcohol... it causes cellulite.
