Belly Piercing and salt water

I know someone that got her bellybutton pierced and was going to the beach as she was adviced that she shouldn’t because the salt water and all would not be good for the piercing. Is that true? Can it get infected more?

I wouldn’t intentionally put a fresh piercing into an unsterile environment. tell your friend to postpone her trip or gear up for some intense pain.

Salt water is actually good for healing. People who swim in the ocean often notice that their cuts heal especially fast. The problem as meaganhead points out is that ocean water is not sterile so there is the risk of infection.
