Autism

Does anyone know the signs of autism in babies?

Answer #1

my toddler was also diagnosed with autism when he was 1 year and 10 months old. his is on a milder form, according to his developmental pedia. my main concern with my son during that time was his language delay, fleeting eye contact, and lack of response to name-calling. he is also hyperactive. I am happy to see some improvements with his skills now that he is undergoing occupational therapy and had just started with his speech therapy. but I have raised another concern to his therapists about his picky eating. it could be a manifestation of his sensory issues which is hypersensitivity to tastes and food texture, because children with ASD have problem with senses (which are either hypo or hypersensitive). it could be my son has oral defensiveness, and that’s what his speech therapists/pathologist is going to find out and work on.

Please do not start self diagnosing your child though… talk to a doctor if you’re worried

Ty offered you a good list of signs, but I just wanted to add that it also depends on how high on the autism spectrum the child is.

My daughter is a high-functioning autistic and she was considered a normal baby other than the fact that she never cried.
