Do you work outside the home or stay at home?

Just curious about the ratio of people that post on here. I realize that a huge number of people are extremely young. But of the older people who is a stay at home mom, and who works outside the home.

Would love to hear compelling arguments on both sides of the coin why you enjoy doing what you do.

Would also like to know what the younger group would like to do when they get older.

Dear texaskimmie, When I was a new mom I was fortunate that I could stay home with my child. I chose to do that so I wouldn’t miss my child growing up, I was able to instill my values in my child and that I could be involved with school and sports activities. I know it is different today; it usually takes 2 incomes to run a household. Saying that, it all depends on what type of household you want to run. If I had to do it today…I would choose to stay home and have a modest household. If that means not having a house only an apartment, not having a second car, cable or fancy phone features then that’s what I’d do. Sue…good luck

We split the difference.

My wife works part time as a nurse. She usually works 2 12 hour 7PM-7AM shifts/week and I work the normal 40+ hour M-F 9AM-6PM week as a UNIX system administrator. This way we both work but we rarely need any kind of child care. I’m on call a lot so when I get called into work and my wife is working that creates a bit of a crisis. Sometimes my wife can leave work early, other times I can get a relative to baby-sit though a few times I just had to bring her to work with me.

We homeschool our daughter so when our finances allow my wife will cut back on her schedule but she will probably keep working some to keep her foot in the door.

This is how we worked it out anyway.
