Are all Rottweilers violent?

I have a rottie, he’s just turned one but he is the softest big thing ever.. he doesnt even bark.. a lot of people get scared of him in the street and it really annoys me.. just because other rotties are aggresive does that mean they all are or can it depend on the way they are raised??

Answer #1

no. they all have the potential to be but it depends on how they were raised. if you look at a dog that was abused it will bite at anyone, look at one that was raised in a kind and firm home they could sleep by your babies and be totally safe.

The real question here should read…”Are ANY Rotties violent?”…

As most everyone above has said…ALL dogs have it in them to be violent (after watching the Dog Whisperer for a few years, I’ll tell ya…Chi’s, Lasa’s, Maltese’s can take the cake on violent!!)…

Every breed is different…every dog within a certain breed is different…some softer, some harder…lots of in-between, just like people. How you treat your dog, will have the most influence on how he acts within the framework of his genetics. Rotties, German Sheps, Pits, Mastiffs…are all considered “gladiator types”…dogs with dominant personalities…Even the softest one, could give a weak personality type person, a run for their money…As long as you provide leadership, training, fairness and consistancy…any dog…ALL breeds, will give you back 100 fold.

Yes,it depends on how their rasied. Some people train them to be mean.Like grabing their mouth and shaking it, it makes them grale and bite your finger playfully. then latter in life it it gets worse. Then they just bark, bite,or grale at anyone.-Brittany

Answer #8

Rotts naturally look intimidating so just get used to people’s reactions and comments. I know how you feel because I had a Blue Pitt. People would make comments like, “I bet that dog is aggressive. She looks mean. That’s a pitt, I bet she kills”. I would get so mad because she’s the biggest baby ever! I raised her with my two chihuahuas and when she’s in trouble, she’ll go behind the chihuahua’s to hide. People only saw her as a Pitt and ignored her wagging tail. It didn’t bother me much anymore after I realized that it’s only the people who are uneducated with the breed that tends to make those comments. People who are familiar with the breed even let their 2 year olds walk up to her for kisses. I was extremely angry at the fact that the news papers and news channels ALWAYS put up a Pitt’s picture whenever there was a dog attack but when I researched the details, it was some other breed. I just got used to it and accepted that uneducated people are always going to judge her.

I do believe that certain breeds have certain traits such as a Pitt is VERY powerful and determined at heart. Chihuahuas are fiesty. Labadors loves to fetch. Springer Spaniels live to hunt. But they do have their own personalities just as humans do. Aggression all depends on how they were raised. Just ignore their comments and enjoy your baby!
