Why is it that when applying to be a citizen for another country, you need to know more than the people who are already citizens?

Answer #1

May be it’s because the country you are applying needs much wiser and valuable citizens.

Answer #2

but why do they need to know more than the natural born citizens? It doesn’t seem fair, I cud understand if it were equal knowledge needing to be known but its not

Answer #3

Because, you cannot go in that country without knowing the rules of towns, the food you get there, and the dresscode. In Pakistan, if you become a citizen and go there with out a head dress as a citizen, some tribes kill you and the people that come in contact with you. Thats why.

Answer #4

I understand they have to know the rules and everything, but the people who are natural born citizens don’t know more than half the rules themselves, so why wud I have to know it when they don’t know the information themselves

Answer #5

Off the top of my head, I can tell you that natural born people are taught this in schools and I’m assuming it’s only fair that you at least remember it for a test. Of course, the amount you remember is much much more but honestly, how long are you really going to remember all of that?

On top of that, knowing about the bill of rights, the constitution (using the US as an example) is something that shouldn’t be required; it’s the law above all laws, you should know about it before you come here but they make sure you do anyway.

You might think that’s it’s useless knowledge but I have a feeling this is just one of the things that leads to lack of voter participation which is at barely half of the population.

Answer #6

Because you have to show that you know the rules. What exactly are they supposed to do with natural born citizens? Demand they take a test before getting a passport? There’s no equivalency for it, natural born citizens get citizenship at birth. And they only need to know more information than some citizens. You realize not everyone is clueless?

Answer #7

Yes I realize everyone isn’t clueless, but how is someone going to demand something of one person and not demand it from another? It just seemd weird to me, thx though

Answer #8

LOL! Good question! The idea behind it is that you should be as up to date with that country as the people who lived there their whole lives… Not that it happens in reality. Too bad though, because the idea is sollid. That is why kids are taught the history of a country in school… If only they would take it more seriosly, maybe this wouldn’t be a problem. Sorry, if I didn’t really answer your question. Just had to comment.

Answer #9

Thx

Answer #10

That has more to do with the citizens not knowing what they should that an immigrant trying to become one. Since they are already citizens, they are not going to be tested. Any country does not want to make it too easy to become a citizen. They want prospective citizens to become well acquainted with the history, customs, traditions, and laws of that country.

Answer #11

But if thr own people don’t know then how can they expect someone else to do it

Answer #12

I understand what you are saying, but they can’t test natural born citizens about what they know. But they probably feel that if a person wants to become a citizen, there are basic things they should know.

Answer #13

There are some things, that every citizen SHOULD know. But some people don’t because they are not well educated. Or because they have been lazy at school. Or because they were not interested.

Now you can’t throw anyone out who was born there but doesn’t know. But you can refuse to let the dumb, uninterested, uneducated and lazy people come in. That’s just that. For example, 30% off all Germans don’t know the names of all 9 neighboring countries. But 100% of them should know. So Germany can’t make any German who failed learning that at school go away. But Germany can just refuse to let somebody become a German if he doesn’t know.

Answer #14

Ok thx so much

Answer #15

Natural born citizen has their birth right , so they don’t need to have that much knowledge.
