An inconvenient occurrence

Why is politics so devisive? Why can we not agree to disagree if one has differing political views from you? What do you guys think? I think that we should not make a big deal out of politics.

Answer #1

I understand what your saying, but without government, there would be no laws, and no one to enforce those laws. Period.

It’s a neccasary evil in that care.

No politics huh? That would mean no laws. That would mean anarchy. It may sound like a good idea at first, but a governement is cruicial in the well-being of a country.

Answer #3

Politics should actually be a very big deal, because it concerns everyone. I do however, agree that people should learn to agree to disagree, instead of being childish and resulting in personal insults.

However, there is nothing wrong with good debate. That’s how you learn.

Answer #4

I am very confident in my positions, but I can still get pretty emotional about them. The emotion does not come from lack of understanding, it comes form understanding very well what the alternatives are. I have seen what neocon policies have done to this country, the loss of our reputation in the world, the mind-boggling money it has wasted, but most of all, the amount of people it has killed. So yes I am angry over it. There is plenty to be angry over. But, I am also very thankful that people seem to have woken up and thoroughly rejected conservatism. At least for now.

Answer #5

Most people’s political positions are poorly thought through - assuming they’ve been thought through at all, and so when they are challenged, anger is the only available response.

It’s kind of fun to point out to such people that the reason they’re so worked up, is that they don’t really know why they hold the positions they hold. If they did, they’d be confident rather than emotional.
