I hate school counselors

I hate school counslers, seriously they dont do anything! I went to mine 2day because I finally got the courage to talk to someone about me being depressed and she said “ what are you here for?”, and I said “personal reasons” she didnt get it and told me to set up an appointment for next year!gosh I swear I wanted to punch her in the face!

I am so sorry you met with a brick wall! I know it is frustrating. Depression is not anything you should feel embarassed about. everyone will experience some level of depression at some point in their life. The important thing is not to let your school counselor’s reaction stop you from trying to talk to someone else. Depression can range anywhere from “the blues” that you will eventually shake on your own, to debilitating clinical depression that needs a trained professional to diagnose and treat medically. But no matter where you fall in that range, talking to someone is the first step to feeling better. I suffer from mild depression several times a month. I find that going outside on a sunny day can help a lot. also, doing something fun with your friends or treating yourself to a mini makeover or something else pampering. exercise too! it releases endorphins in your brain and will make you feel better. but the bottom line is find an adult you trust and speak to them…honestly and frankly, about what you are going through. if you do not have a trusted adult in your life, most phone books have a crisis intervention line listed in the yellow pages under “crisis” or even “counselor”. if you cant locate one that way, call your county health department and ask them if they have any telephone numbers for crisis intervention. you dont have to be suicidal to use one of these hotlines and they may be just the help you need. or they can refer you to someone who can help. And honestly, if you are brave enough, go back to your school counselor and tell him/her that you really need to talk and its not something that can wait until next year. If you still dont get the help you need, I would report the counselor to the board of education. that is a serious lack of concern for the welfare of a student, and as far as I am concerned, a violation of their responsibility code as a part of the education system. I wish you well, and hope you find what you need to put a smile back on your face!

Thats very unprofessional, is there a different counselor there you could talk to? If not maybe you could set up one outside of school. Or if you have a close type relationship with any of your teachers maybe you should talk to him/her. I remember in 7th grade my teacher and I were like friends, she always helped me out.

I have to go to that counsler because my name ends with an E. teachers…not a good idea all mine hate me. I need to find a counsler out of school, but my problem is opening up, I lie when they ask me serious questions like have you thought about suicide.

Answer #5

If it were me I would complain to the heaedmaster or whoever is in charge at your school. It took a lot to ask for help and if you cant get it there ring a hotline number and find out where you can go.

Then get one outside school. They wont expect you to open up right away, they will talk with you a lot about things and you will slowly open up a little at a time. And if you do lie, they will probley be able to tell you are lying and kind of work around it a bit until your able to talk about it.
