Do you think it is okay for a 15 year old girl to go out jogging by herself?

Do you think that it is safe for a 15 year old girl to go out jogging a few times a week just around the local area, during daylight hours? I’m just wondering, cause I want to start. Holiday wasn’t kind to me. :P

Depends on where you live. Where I live it is relatively safe to do it in the middle of the afternoon, because there are a lot of people walking around. Do be vigilant however, always phone someone to tell them where you are going, how long you’ll be and maybe have a family member or friend check in with you in the afternoons, it can be something as simple as you sending a message to them letting them know that you are safe.

I agree with Irene. During the day in areas where that aren’t isolated should be fine. Dress appropriately, if it’s hot, it’s hard to have too much on, but if it’s too hot, maybe you shouldn’t be out running. Always be aware of your surroundings. I know when I run I sometimes get into ‘the zone’ and you forget to check your environment. Look around, behind, sideways, and definitely UP in case of alien abduction! Let people know where you are going and when you’ll be back. Carry a cell phone. Have fun. Watch out for wombats.

Answer #3

totally agree irene kruger also you should change your route once in while otherwise people can get famliar with your patterned and some people may watch and wait not saying this happens often but it can also you should set a area as where you only go running and make sure family know this and if you do change route make sure they know to best it stick to a route not too far out the way and some where you can be seen majortily of people

Thanks for all the great advice, they are all really good points. But, there aren’t many pedestrians where I live, but there are busy roads with lots of cars. I like the idea about changing routes every now and then - clever thinking :) Do you think that it would be safer to run with a friend? I do live in quite a safe area, I am just a bit paranoid about getting abducted or something :S

Answer #5

It’s fine to be paranoid, rather be paranoid and safe than not safe at all and putting yourself in danger. It would be a lot better if you could run with a friend. You should still be careful, even two people can easily get into trouble, they are just less likely to do so. Also I like the idea of changing routes, however it can be better in the long run to also stick with a route you know, that way you’ll know how to get home quick or somewhere if you need help.
