Answer #1

The different policy terms related to secondary and primary coverage apply when an insured person is covered under two plans. It’s common for married people, when both partners work at companies that provide health insurance as a benefit… Soo.. Are you insured under one or two insurances? and Employer is your job yes.

Answer #2

so lets say i am married and i have a different insurance plan then my husband …i put mine the primary and his a secondary?

Answer #7

Insurance terminology can be very complicated to understand. As Brooke pointed out. Secondary is any other insurance you are insured by that you have, your husband, parents, or government provides to you. Although it sounds like you have seperate dental insurance you are correct in listing your medical as some exception scenarios could apply that the medical in some cases cover as well. It’s all based on how the policy is written and particulars of your circumstance. For instance if you were in an auto accident that resulted in your needing surgery on your mouth, you would list your auto insurance, medical insurance and dental insurance. The hospital would then sort out who covers what as primary, secondary, and other. If the primary does not cover 100% then they go to the others to see if their coverage under the terms covers the balances remaining.
