How does one go about getting a medical card or other cheap forms of "insurance"?

I live in Illinois. I have no health insurance because I can’t afford anything that will take me. I applied for a medical card or something along those terms when I moved back home but was denied. I’m moving to a new county soon, so I’m going to try again. A friend and I were talking about it today and he thought there was something you could apply for through the state too. Is this true? Any other advice for this subject?

You would have to apply with public aid, but keep in mind that the coverage is very limited. I would do your homework to find plans that fit your budget. There are companies out there that can work with you to find affordable coverage.

Actually, Obama’s proposed a plan for people who are uninsured due to being denied by a company due to a pre-existing condition.

You can read about that here. It’s a decent plan, affordable, and the last chance for some people who have been denied over and over for pre-existing conditions. Now, if you just can’t AFFORD the insurance but you’ve been approved, can’t help you there– unless you get on a group plan through your job.

I was told by several people that that part of it doesn’t kick in until 2014.
