What exactly do they do when a woman "has her tubes tied"?

I know it prevents pregnancy but ever since my mother got this done 7 years ago I’ve been wondering on and off…

Answer #1

They used to cut and cauterize the tubes, but nowadays, they simply attach titanium clips that “pinch” the tube to prevent the egg from travelling.

Answer #2

that’s it, just a clip? is that why some women can get pregnant after their tubes were tied?

Answer #3

Pretty much … the procedure is only guaranteed for 5 years … after that there’s no guarantee the clips won’t fall off. I’ve had mine for 12 years without a problem.

Answer #4

oh woww

Answer #5

When you get your tubes tied the doctor cuts the tube to prevent the eggs from traveling so now you can do whatever you want and not have to worry about getting pregnant (:

Answer #6

Yeah, my mom’s had hers for 13 years and no issue either :p

Answer #7

Oh gosh I don’t want to think about that. We had to watch a video in class of the girl getting her tubs tied and also a guy like how they fix a guy it was gross.

Answer #8

why is there a time limit on the prodecure? can you get them burned?

Answer #9

They either cut the tubes linking her ovaries to her uterus or they clip it. My mother had hers cut and has never had any issues with it.
