What do you think about the woman who lied about another woman splashing acid in her face?

The woman in Washington who told police she had acid thrown in her face by a stranger confesses that she made it all up, and could now face charges.

Bethany Storro got national attention and sympathy when she first spoke from the hospital three weeks ago.

She claimed a black woman threw acid in her face.

Now police say, it was all a lie.

Marla Schuman, from the Vancouver Police Department said, “From the very beginning her story had a lot of holes. And as we developed more information, it became very clear this was probably a self-inflicted act.”

Investigators got a search warrant Thursday and when they confronted Storro with their suspicions, she crumbled.

Ms. Storro admitted that her injuries were self-inflicted.

She could be charged with filing a false report and possibly fraud, if she spent any of the money people donated to help.

Police wouldn’t comment on why she did it.

Her hoax may have a real victim, a woman in Arizona was burned by acid, in what might have been a copy-cat attack.

Derri Velarde says she’s shocked at the turn of events.

“My initial reaction – just no, it couldn’t be possible. I can’t imagine someone doing this to themselves. It was so upsetting”, Velarde said.

Police don’t believe Velarde was targeted at random but they still don’t have a suspect.

To injure yourself that badly just to blame another person, she needs to be locked away and given major psychiatric help because her mind obviously does not function properly.

Answer #2

She’s pretty much crazy, if I’m going to put it bluntly. Sounds like a huge scam for attention. People like that make me uneasy, and I probably wouldn’t want to have to live near someone as unstable as that. I would hope she gets some ja!l time at least. This should not be tolerated. As a side note, why on earth is the word ja!l not allowed?

Answer #3

To make up a crazy story like that, you should feel ashamed preying on people to get sympathy. She needs help, and the police NEED to do something to about it.

Answer #4

Its kind of sad, to throw acid all over your face on purpose just to get attention. One way the cops began questioning her was because she said a black woman threw it on her face at night which was confusing, because none of the acid hit her eyes, there were huge white unburnt rings around her eyes. They asked why she thinks it didnt hit her eyes at all, and she was all like, “Oh, I was wearing suunglasses. And who wears sunglasses at night time?-nobody that I no of. So they looked more into it. I think that its crazy that somebody would go that far for some attention.

idk i saw it on the news today i think that lady has problems with her…

Answer #6

Sounds like Factitious disorder. Here’s my issue. Whether someone has a mental disorder or not, knowing that something they are doing is wrong precludes them from getting away with an insanity defense. Just because you do something most people do not understand, does not make you insane. She needs to go to ja,il.

Answer #7

Doesn’t really bother me to be honest. It’s her loss really- she now has nasty burns on her face. Throw her in a mental hospital and get on with life. I don’t see what the big deal is.

Answer #8

No fcking way that was bullsht?! I remmember hearing about that from Mackenzie! And.. Wow, some people are unf*ckinbelievable, what the hell is the point?

Answer #9

I saw that, i’m upset cause I personally had been worried to hang around down there cause a large majority of my friends are in the Downtown vancouver area and I was freaked out some woman would splash acid in my face. Now to find out she was faking is just absurd. I dont understand how someone could do that…
