Will the U.S. ever get universal healthcare?

there you go.

Answer #1

Have you ever heard of TORT REFORM. TORT REFORM is putting caps on lawsuits, like malpractice law suits. Doctors are getting sued out of their minds by greedy lawyers, and millions are going in these suits. If there was tort reform, than insurance wouldn’t have to pay for all suits, which would lower the cost of healthcare, making it affordable to many more people. Another reason healthcare is so high is because doctors are worried about being sued, so they order so many extra expensive tests, which raises healthcare costs. So the U.S. doesn’t need universal healthcare, just talk to someone from the U.K., it takes months to get an appointment, and is very expensive. By the way if you voted democrat than you just screwed us because democrats have strong ties to the Bar Assc. which donates money to their campaigns so they don’t support tort reform, republicans do

Possible - may not turn out to be the ‘utopia’ some think it to be - Gov’t run, so inefficiency/abuse/long wait for services definately possible - can only see Dr’s of the Gov’ts choosing possible - taxes to pay for it may be through the roof - remains to be seen.

It’s incredible that an industrialized country like the US has no universal healthcare!!! The most important asset to a country is it’s people!!! The government has the obligation to take care of their welfare which includes their health.I find it most disrespectful to neglect such an important factor like that. It’s so sad!How many people have to die because their health insurance can’t cover for their treatments. It should be a violation of human rights to withhold something as essential as universal healthcare to the people!

I like the idea presented by Dennis Kucinich, A not-for-profit health care system, similar to Medicare.

Here’s what Dennis said on the House floor July 4, 2006. REMOVE COSTS RELATED TO PRIVATE INSURERS At least 30% of the $3.2 trillion spent annually for health care in the United States goes to the for-profit system, while 50 million Americans, many of them working, are without health insurance. About $660 billion goes for corporate profits, executive salaries, stock options, advertising, marketing, and the cost of paperwork. If we took all that money and we put it into a public health system, a national health care plan, we would have enough money to cover everything for everyone. EOM

Ask anyone on Social Security and Medicare and they’ll tell you it’s the best thing the government ever done for it’s people. Thanks to Franklin D. Roosevelt and Lyndon B. Johnson.

rnealw, Americans already pay more for health care than other countries that provide universal coverage.

What we have now is the worst of all possible worlds. Pharmacutical and insurance companies basically write health policy for their benefit.

Medicare and Medicaid already work suprisingly well. My plan would be to over time expand these programs or similar ones until everyone is covered.

Answer #6

The only problem with universal Health is that Sale, Income, property and other Taxes will Scy rocket. You Pharmaceutical Companys will fight it along with many Private hospitals and doctors. . . . Oh and the Insurence companys which would stand to lose lots of money would probably Raise rates across the board. . . So instead of Paying $3.00 for a gallon of Gas you would probably pay $6 - $9 with all the extra tax that was needed causing freight charges to raise which would cause retail prices to rise along with the new taxes. . . So at the present state of the economy it would probably take 40 years to get where we could afford to have universal health care.
