Answer #20

Wiccan beliefs vary markedly between different traditions. However, various commonalities exist between these disparate groups, which usually include views on theology, the afterlife, magic and morality. For most Wiccans, the God and Goddess are seen as complementary polarities in the universe that balance one another out, and in this manner they have been compared to the concept of yin and yang. Traditionally the God is viewed as a Horned God, associated with nature, wilderness, sexuality, hunting and the life cycle. Wicca does not place an emphasis on the afterlife, focusing instead on the current one. Some Wiccans believe that magic is simply making full use of the five senses that achieve surprising results,Many Wiccans believe magic to be a law of nature, as yet misunderstood or disregarded by contemporary science, and as such they do not view it as being supernatural, but being a part of the “super powers that reside in the natural”

Answer #24

It is older than Christianity

Answer #25

Wicca is based on Pagan beliefs. Paganism is most likely the oldest religion in the world, though the term “Paganism” actually encompasses a huge variety of traditions and beliefs. Wicca in its current form gained popularity in the 20th century, but the beliefs and religions it is based on are far, far, far older than any monotheistic religion (Christianity included).

Answer #26

Wicca is an earth-based, Pagan religion. The term “Paganism” incorporates hundreds, perhaps thousands, of different beliefs and traditions. It is most likely the oldest religion in the world, though the Paganism of early humans was doubtless very different from the forms of Paganism that are practiced today.

Wiccans, and Pagans in general, believe in the “sacredness” of the earth and all living things, and that all beings are interconnected in some way. At the heart of the Wiccan religion is the law “an’ it harm none, do what thou will” which means “do what you like as long as it harms no one else (including yourself)”. Pagans and Wiccans believe in taking responsibility for themselves, their beliefs, and their actions. Since they believe that all things are connected and sacred, they are against harming other animals and people. They are against causing harm to others in any way, even emotionally. They are against the desecration of nature because of their belief that the earth is sacred.

Another central tenet of the Wiccan religion is the threefold law, which is a form of karma. It says that whatever you do, will come back at you times three (not necessarily in quantity, but in severity). If you do good, that good will come back to you, even stronger. If you do evil, that too will come back at you, even stronger.

Most Wiccans believe in the God and Goddess. Some believe that they are lovers, and others believe that they are essentially one. Wiccans believe in balance, and a balance between the masculine and feminine.

Almost all Wiccans practice rituals. Some believe this is actual magic (though not hocus-pocus fairy tale magic; something far more subtle and divine), and others see it as a form of prayer. For a Wiccan, a ritual is a bit like going to church. It keeps them in tune with their spirituality and the world around them, and helps them get rid of negative energy and negative thoughts.

Some Wiccans practice alone, and others practice in covens with other witches. People of either gender can be Wiccans, not just women. Usually, for someone to be a “full-fledged” Wiccan, they must dedicate at least a year to study.

Wiccans do not, and have not ever, worshiped or even believed in Satan. They do not perform sacrifices or “curses”. Many do perform spells, but usually these spells are for things like good health, protection, etc. They are not Harry Potter-esque spells. A witch cannot perform telekinesis or fly. Wiccan magic is NOTHING LIKE what most people think about when they hear the word. It is a release of spiritual energy, which they believe subtly effects the world around them for the better.

Also, Wicca offers a large amount of “wiggle room” for different beliefs. Some believe that spells and rituals are no different from spiritual meditation. Others believe they are no different from the prayer of other religions. Some Wiccans believe that there are many different Gods and Goddesses; some believe there is only one; some believe in God only as an abstract concept. There is no “one way” to be a Wiccan.

Answer #27

Wicca is a religion, not simply a moral code. However, since it has no official “dogma” and tons of “wiggle room” for various beliefs, it is possible to mesh Wicca with other religions. You can be both a Wiccan and an Atheist, both a Wiccan and a Christian, both a Wiccan and a Buddhist, etc. However, most practicing Wiccans do not do this. Wicca is their actual religion, with belief systems that include moral codes, Gods and/or Goddesses, rituals, holidays, etc.

Answer #28

Witchcraft is not like fantasty magic. The “spells” and “rituals” that a Wiccan performs are NOT hocus-pocus, fairy tale, Harry Potter magic. A witch cannot make money appear out of thin air, make objects float, or brew love potions. A Wiccan’s spells and rituals are a part of their belief system, much like how Catholics go to church every sunday, take communion, and go through the rituals of standing, kneeling, etc. Wiccans perform spells and rituals as a form of spiritual grounding, meditation, prayer, etc. Some believe that spells cause a release of positive energy that can have very subtle positive effects. For example, a spell to make a loved one healthy might direct the healthy energy of the spellcaster into his or her loved one. Not all Wiccans believe that this happens, but for those who do, it is NOT fairy tale magic.
