Why isnt my medication working?

Im suffering from depression. And I mean im really depressed, I think about suicide all the time and why I bother staying alive, and finally after 4 years I went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed me medicine for 6 months. He said theyd start working well after about 3 weeks. I’ve been on them for more than 30 days. And im still depressed as ever. Are they not strong enough? What can I do? Please help, this is a last resort

Answer #4

You really need to go talk to your psychiatrist. They will sometimes start you off at a lower dose and then increase as needed (or change, or add, or whatever). Point is, you should have started to see some effects, and if you’re not, then you need to go back in. Also, consider therapy. I’m surprised they didnt recommend it given the suicidal ideation. And this is not a last resort. There’s a lot of different medications and therapies and therapists. You’ve got options.
