My cat has been oddly clingy lately, I can't even go into a room with a door closed without him running and bashing into it repeatedly untill I open the door and let him in. Considering he's almost 25 pounds he can cause a lot of damage to my doors. He's not an overweight cat by any means he's a maine coon so this is normal for his breed. He's always been a bit clingy but never to this extent. He's not physically ill or anything I've brought him in to the vet to figure out if there were any underlying problems, nothing wrong. He is starting to drive me mad. I can't even pee without him basically breaking down my door. He's also starting to get jealous, if im on the computer he will go out of his way to shove my laptop off me. Does anyone have any clue what may be causing this?
@riah501: LOL what? I think you're escaping from reality in the first part of your answer.
Cats don't sense emotion in some magical way, they can simply read your certain behavioral signals people make based on their emotions, as well as smell different chemicals the body releases when distressed. They also don't sense sickness, but rather have a much sharper sense of smell that can pick up the different odors affiliated with certain illnesses.
I have a 10 month old tabby maine coone mix she dose the same she stalks me threw out the house meows at my door when it closed to get in jumps up in my lap when my laptop is there the only think I can say is there very loveble cats
Just as peoples' desires change throughout their lifetime, so can the desires of social mammals. It is possible that as your cat is aging, his focuses are less on being adventurous and more on seeking affection.
cats can sense things. my cat could tell when I had sum evgil spirit haunting me. and he protects me cus I guess he scares them off. cats can also sense emotions and sickness.
