Why dosent my father understand
Ok, im a goth, meaning I like the gothic culture and all that, but my dad said id better not be a goth because he thinks its a steriotype, but im from the german visigothic bloodline and he is too! How can I make so he understands that I am myself, but im gothic because of the culture. I have a similar problem with my mom only when were shopping for clothing she says stuff like”dont dress like a goth” or something and she tries to tell me about myself when shes asleep so often and she lies so much that she dosent know the truth from a lie anymore, and she tries to get me to wear girly skirts! Im a goth at heart and for lyfe, and she tries to say I shouldnt call my self a goth because its a steriotype, but she uses it as a steriotype more often than I do!!!
Why does the outside have to be part of you inside? That is what you dad and mom are trying to say. Yes it is easy for me to show who I am because I have long hair and brown skin, it shows that I’m native American. I’m still outward about how race plays in our world and tell why it was wrong. That is what you have to do. There is a past to the gothic religion be proud of it and yell it to the world. Yes outward showing is nice it’s not the strongest.
The modern goth subculture has nothing to do with the original Goths. Also, since when were goth and ‘girly skirts’ mutually exclusive? Gothic fashion is actually pretty girly most of the time…
Maybe you could compromise. Wear some of the clothes she wants you to, but along with the clothes you like, or add accessories or anything to them to make them your style. Don’t call yourself a goth, at least not around your parents. I’m not saying deny it, but just don’t make a big deal out of it, and don’t mention it. That way maybe they’ll see you’re not only doing it to be part of a trend and that it’s not just a phase. :)
