Why does it hurt to bend down?

As I lean over to pick up somthing theres a pain along my waist line I know they say bend with the knees but why does it make a difference

I should have added… if you want to strengthen your back, you can do a simple excercise with a 15 or 20 lb weight in each hand. They’re called deadlifts, and you do bend over, back straight, arms down, lift the weights off the floor and stand up. keep arms straight, back down again. repeat till failure. Do 2 sets. Twice a week, use heavier weights as your back gets stronger.

When you lean over, you’re using your back muscles. Some people stay like that for 6 weeks just from bending over. lol. My husband put his back out for about a month , bending over to pick up a tiny piece of paper.
