Why do some dogs chase there tail?

  Some do it out of boredom, some become obsessed with it...to the point that they will actually mutilate it...One's that do it rarely, I think just happen to see it, but realize soon enough that it's attached to them, and harmless.

  Because they think its another living thing or animal that is not part of their body, and that they dont control, so if you have a dog that chases other things, it will probably chase its tail.
