Why do so many people think no period= no pregnancy?

Im a little concerned. Many people are advising girls on this site that they should enjoy not having their period because it means they cant fall pregnant. This is not entirely true!! While getting your period does show that you are releasing mature eggs, think about this: Before you get your period, a mature egg is released, ready to be fertilized. Again, what happens IMMEDIATELY BEFORE a girl has her first ever period? A mature egg is released! Which can be fertilized! Before she ever actually has her first period! Dont think you can have unprotected sex because you have never had a period, there is still a chance you may be ovulating and may be able to get pregnant. Even if there is zero chance, there is still the matter of sexually transmitted infections to consider.

if you ever have sex without protection, then yes, theers always a chance period or no period, theres always a chance also, women are born with eggs, so its possible for girls to get pregnant at VERY young ages…even as young as 5

Bri, this is exactly what luthien is trying to say IS NOT THE CASE. Read what the poster wrote, if you have that fallacious view you’re just going to end up pregnant.

You can STILL Get pregnant if you have sex on your period.

(wishes Bush was never elected so we’d have some form of sex ed)

Editor, no one said that if you have sex on your period you won’t get pregnant. She (bri) was saying that USUALLY if you start having sex before your first period, you can have sex without using birth control and not worry about being pregnant, because you have not yet started ovulating.

This, however, is not an effective means of birth control, because you cannot tell when you will start your very first period, and the ovulation occurs before you menstruate.
