Why do people pronounce the word

Why do people pronounce the word envelope onvelope I’ve always wonderd why? I mean its en where is the on in there

Answer #1

It’s a British thing, and considering english was there before the US or Canada…

Answer #2

ha get used to it! My grandma pronounces “washington” like warshington, with that “r” sound. and my cousin doesn’t know the difference between obvious and oblivious. and my other cousin couldn’t say my friend’s name right so he called her Bacon! of all things… her name is Megan by the way. I bet you a lot of people would ask why you pronounce it ENvelope. At least you have a good argument :)

Answer #3

Because the English language is a flexible and amorphous beast that refuses to sit still, and with a billion people trying to speak it, you’re bound to get some variations.

That aside, the dictionary lists both pronunciations as correct, so stop fighting it.

Answer #4

I say ‘ENvelope’, but I’m just a hick from the sticks, so what do I know about proper pronunciation? lol

Answer #5

Some people have accents… And some people just like saying it like that..

Answer #6

I pronounce it … Onvelope … because the people in england where I live say it like that xD
