why do people get nose bleeds?

I just had a nose bleed! my first 1! I was just laying down watching tv and then I felt something coming out of my nosse so I wiped it and there was blood! so my boyfriend told me to put tissue in my nose and put my head back so I did then bout a min or two later it was gone. but then this got me thinking what are the causes of nose bleeds? could it be stress that im going threw since my boyfriend is in boston and I have a high possiabilty of being pregnant with his baby. so is it stress or something else?

nose bleeds can be from a variety of things mostly is dry air. I have had them since I was a little kid and went to a doctor finally. For me it is that I have thin lining in my nose which makes the blood vessels very sensitive. So you could also have that. If it you get them more you should try running a humidifyer it helps a lot or get AYR saline nasel gel which you would use twice a day it also helps too. But you never want to hold your head back it is not good. For one it makes the blood travel down to your throat which drys it out and its gross. you wanna take a tissue and put it to your nose and pinch it where the bone in the nose is and hold it there until it stops. also for some people who get blood clots when they egt bloody noses you do not want to blow thouse out if possible. Because the blood clots help stop the bleeding. I knwo this all from experience

I havent heard of ice being used before but if it helped that is good. and yes a blood clot is a like a big clog of blood. If you get them more you should runa humidifyer it helps. if you have any other questions just ask

Is a blood clot like a big clog of blood ? because I did blow it out there was some what more bleeding But then I but ice on my nose to help stop it and then it helped.. Was that good or bad what I did?

Firstly you should never hold your head back when you have a nose bleed , you should pinch the bridge of your nose and hold your head up straight .. Secondly there are loads of different reasons you could have had a nose bleed … Sometimes it can be a medical condition or as you said just stress or it could just be that you have a cold or even the cold weather can sometimes cause nose bleeds … So basically it could be anything ! Tough to say what caused it. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it doesn’t stop or you have repeated nose bleeds. If they become more frequent go see a doctor. You should also be practicing safe sex.
