drinking age should be lowered in the united states?

who thinks the drinking age should be lowered in the united states? lol. I don’t know…

Answer #1

No. I don’t think it would work in this country. People would go buck wild and drink all the time. It works in other countries because they were raised with the drinking age being lower. It’s not uncommon in other countries to have wine with every meal or a beer. In America, majority of people drink to get plastered, not just casually.

Answer #2

It’s currently up to the states to decide, which seems appropriate to me. I think 18 is a reasonable age unattended, or even younger with guardian oversight and consent (like are rated movies).

Answer #3

I do. More & more teenagers are getting in trouble for drinking. Maybe they should just have like a certain hour to stop like you can drink from 1pm-12am

Answer #4

many people are not even able to handle the responsibility of consuming alcohol at the age of 21(and even much older), I do not think it should be lowered.

Answer #5

well, I dont like how we can serve or country but we cant drink untill we are twenty one. either the age for serving needs to be raised, or drinking needs to be lowered. I vote for serving our country being rised to twenty one. not 18. god bless our troops.

Answer #6

While there are many who have drinking problems, the vast majority of people are responsible with their drinking. And what about the people who AREN’T. Those people- few as they may be- are a danger to everyone else. If they drink too much and get behind the wheel, they could kill someone. If they get drunk and get angry about something, they could end up hurting something. More rapes occur when one or both persons are intoxicated. 4 years isn’t really that long to wait, and unless you had a bit to much of an attachment to drinking, 4 years wouldn’t be a problem.

Answer #7

“melovesyouu, Drunk driving is against the law, as is assault, as is rape.” Does that stop drunk driving? Does that stop rape and assault? Noo. Just like you said, if you keep it illegal, they’re going to do it anyway. Why make it easier? one of my close friends was killed in by a drunk driver who was 40 racing two drunk high school boys. They stopped for the red light, and she didn’t. I have 4 friends who were raped. Now, what were you saying?

Answer #8

the age of voting was raised because teh troops that were called out in the army way back when wanted to be able to vote about what their country needs. kuz you could (I think…) sign up for the army at 18. so no, I don’t think the drinking age should be raised or the voting age be lowered. I don’t want to see a bunch of highschoolers driving around making a mess of our neighborhood. I just think that thatd be a bad idea. but thats my opinion…

Answer #9

I do - Where I live it’s 19 and I think it’s the perfect age.

Answer #10

“And what about the people who AREN’T. “

What about them? Do you think making it illegal for them to drink is going to stop them?

“Those people- few as they may be- are a danger to everyone else. If they drink too much and get behind the wheel, they could kill someone. If they get drunk and get angry about something, they could end up hurting something. More rapes occur when one or both persons are intoxicated. “

melovesyouu, Drunk driving is against the law, as is assault, as is rape.

Answer #11

not true at all swimgirl. While there are many who have drinking problems, the vast majority of people are responsible with their drinking.

Answer #12

The drinking age was lowered to 18 in New Zealand, and it was met with chaos. The amount of teens in drunk driving accidents skyrocketed, and younger and younger children were getting hold of alcohol through older siblings, etc, some getting drunk as young as 13- waaay too young to be getting plastered.

I think the big thing that needs to be done is changing young people’s attitudes about drinking, and teaching them about responsibility and limits. I feel I was very lucky the way I was brought up with my parents- if I wanted a glass of wine with dinner, I only had to ask, and they would give me a small glass. Because it was never really restricted in my house, when I turned 18, the hype of being legally able to drink wasn’t there.

Also, look at countries where there is no legal age for alcohol consumption- there is little to no teenage binge drinking scene, mainly because they’ve been allowed a one or two drinks most of their lives, so drinking is no great novelty.
