Where can you find out the origin of a name

Like what kind of name is woyshner like wilson is irish

Answer #1

Wilson is typically Scottish… perhaps the name made it to Ireland during the plantation period… but the Son suffix denotes its anglophonic origin. The designation of an heir in Irish names is provided by the prefix O… the son designation in Irish names is provided by the prefix Mac or some iteration of it.

People are confused by the term… Scots or Scotch-Irish. Scots-Irish were displaced Scots living in Northern Ireland. They were protestants in a time of severe conflict with catholicism… and although admixture did occur with the local Irish…[read… catholic] population… it wasn’t normal.

To answer your question… you are looking for the etymology of the surname Woyshner

It is easier to find what you are looking for when you use the correct nomenclature on the internet… incorporate the word etymology into your search bar along with the name.

Good Luck!

Hello! My name is Don and one site you should try is www.ancestry.com plus use both Ask.Com and Google. THere is a Woyshner’s Christmas Shoppe in Buffalo, New York, get their address and write them for possible answers. I found in general, every Woyshner listed was living in the state of New York. Another possibility, is in Ask.com, ask for a site of people whom came through Ellis Island, if you that name listed in there, itr will tell you country of origin. Good luck! Don
