When is the usual age to start your period?

When is the usual age that most girls start their periods? and is it unhealthy if you start it late(how late?) or early(how early?)? please answer

The age of menarche (1st period) has been getting earlier over the last century. Currently the average is 12.5. I find it interesting that in Japan the age of menarchy while they ate their traditional diet was 17 but after adopting a more Western diet is has come down to 13 in just a few decades. There are a number of theories about why it is coming earlier than it used to, I think it is our rich diet and our stressful lifestyle. Vegetarian girls tend to get their 1st period a little later than meat eaters and girls who do not grow up with a father figure or have a bad relationship with their dad tend to have it earlier than girls who have a close relationship with their father. The first signs of puberty in girls typically occur about 2 years before they get their period. Puberty is considered precocious (too early) if it begins before 8 for girls or before 9 for boys. Medical concerns for precicious puberty are stunted growth and greater risk for certain hormone influenced cancers.

I started early I was 10. but really people can start really late as in 17 maybe even 18. it all depends on your body. but trust me youo dont want your period for as long as you can wait ha

ii guess it just depends on the person,, iim 14 and stiill havent started miine,, But all of my friiends have,, ii’ve heard some people start around the age theiir mom did,,

lol my mom was 16 when she started it. I guess I dont have to worry about being one of those pregnant 15 or 16 yr olds lol

The youngest I’ve heard was a 9-year-old (my cousin) and oldest I personally know was 16. I got mine when I was 10, lucky me…

From what I’ve read, 11 - 16…certainly there are exceptions.
