If you have a lot of music or videos on your computer, you might want to delete them. They take up a lot of space.

You don’t say what operating system you have (Windows 98, XP, etc.) or what your hard disk size is. Those are two helpful pieces of information.

If you are wanting to Defrag your computer to speed things up, below is information for defragmenting in Windows XP plus some other info to help speed things up:

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter > select (highlight) the drive you want to Defrag and click Analyze. After analyzing a window will pop up telling you whether you need to Defrag that drive.

Before you Defrag you might want to do the Disk Cleanup. Follow the same instructions for getting to the Defragmenter but choose Disk Cleanup instead which is right above Defragmenter.

If you don’t have a registry cleaner, check out the one below:

Eusing Free Registry Cleaner is good and relatively fast.

http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm

I run it at least once a week.

If you don’t have a good anti spyware / adware program, consider:

Spybot - Search & Destroy removes spyware and it’s FREE.

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

I also run it weekly.

If you don’t have a good anti-virus program, I highly recommend AVG:

AVG is a FREE anti-virus program that is excellent

If you use your computer a lot or a lot of other people use your computer then you can set it to automatically run each day during a time that you don’t usually use your computer. Otherwise just set it to run once a week.

You can actually use your computer while each of the above tasks are in operation but you will find that your programs run slower while the task is in progress.

Greetings! I’m going to try to answer both your computer questions here, based on the limited info that I have. First, go into the Temp and Temporary Internet Files folders and delete everything in them. Then empty the Recycle Bin. Mext, run a good virus checker to get rid on any viruses that you have, and then download and run Spybot and Ad Aware to clean up spyware. These steps will clean up your system quite a lot. Next, you need to know your processor speed, how much RAM you have, and how big your hard drive is. If you have a slower processor, say less than a 1.5G processor, you may want to get a newer PC. You should be running at least 512M of RAM - preferably more. Finally, your hard drive should be at least 40G. These are all minimum specs - they will allow Windows to run OK, but that’s about it. I would NOT try to put Vista on your PC - Vista really is a resource hog, and unless you have quite a current PC, is not worth the effort. Give me a Fun Mail if you want more info, and I’ll step you through finding out your PC specs and give you an idea of what yoiu can do to clean things up. Good Luck!
