gaining disk space

I baught a 150 GB external hard drive. my primary internal drive is 30GB and has about 500 MB left. I need to transfer my programs onto the external drive, HOW? Will my operating system recognize the external drive as the drive that has the programs? Or do you suggest I do something else to regain my space on internal drive?

You will have to uninstall them from your 30GB drive and reinstall them on your 150GB so that they will recognize/register the new programs. Music and videos and such can just be drag dropped.
