What makes swedish meatballs swedish?

So I heated up a Lean Cuisine “swedish meatball” thingy for lunch. I’m trying the whole eating meat thing and it’s slow but steady. Anyway, I asked my boyfriend what made the meatballs swedish, and he had no clue.

Anyone know what makes swedish meatballs swedish? They look like regular meatballs to me…

Hello Editor :P

Meatballs have a diversity of variations accross the world to change their taste according to their culture. In Sweden, meatballs are known as köttbullar and use a different receipe that the ones from other countries. In the US they have been made popular by dozens of frozen food brands as well as certain Swedish companies that have imported them with the original receipe. Please note that the receipe has been variated to adjust to the American culture so some of them might not be the authentic Swedish Meatballs :D.

In other words, they are Swedish because they follow an originally Swedish receipe.
