But are their laws that protect the employees that work in construction in u.k.

Of course there are, there are laws for every job. The basic law is if you get hurt on the job then the company is fully responsible and they have to properly train you. There are a huge amount of different laws about it, mainly about the contract.

This legislation is transposed into the Member States and places requirements on employers (and others) to assess and protect workers health and safety.

In the United States the Occupational Safety & Health Administration OSHA sets and enforces standards concerning workplace safety and health.
