Answer #7

Golden Retrievers and Labradors are generally pretty kind and friendly…(if you’re looking for a larger dog)…If you’re looking for smaller, Boston Terriers and Pugs are ultra friendly (but you have to be extra extra careful purchasing a Pug, because of the genetic screw ups)…Medium sized, Springer Spaniels always seem to have a smile on their face.

If all you’re looking for is a “friendly” dog…go to the shelter, and check them out…there’s hundreds to choose from…lots of mixed breeds are friendly…

If you are going to buy a dog…then you’ve got to check out the parents…what are their personalities like? Open and friendly? Suspicious…shy…these are good indicators of what the pups will be like.

Before you get a dog and possibly find you are incompatible, ask yourself these questions:

What kind of excercise can I give it? (daily, weekly, almost never) What kind of environment is it? (house, condo, apartment, etc.) How long will it be alone everyday? (work, kids, school, etc) Can I afford to take care of it (costs range from $50 to $500/month for some breeds)

When you get those answers, ask your local pet store/shelter/breeder what is best for you, and they will have answers that are so much better than this forum it isn’t even funny.

I have a black lab he is the friendliest dog EVER! All he could do is lick you to death! But the key to having a nice dog is to treat it with respect and keep away when they want to be left alone and to teach it manners! Good Luck! Smud

Answer #15

The problem with this question is that you can have what is normally called a “friendly” dog, but if you don’t train it, socialize it, exercise it adequately and treat any underlying illness (like thyroid issues), the a typically friendly dog can turn aggressive and mean. And some dogs that have a “bad” reputation like dobes, can be extraordinarily friendly and sweet. It depends on the owner’s willingness to care for it.
