My class is going to start writing fantasy stories soon so I was thinking about what fantasy creature I should write about...Werewolf, Ogre, Vampire, Dragons, Fairies?
I guess that question depends on you. Which creature do you have most knowledge about and can easily yield a narrative of?
Also, I do not know how much leeway your class is giving you, but maybe you can be creative and inventive. So lets say you pick a dragon, now normally dragons breath fire, but you can have this one dragon breath ice for a change. Or a fairy which is normally a small woman, have the power to transform herself into a woman of a normal size and look like a human being. Fairies are also traditionally not the center of the story. So maybe you can have the fairy fall in love with a human guy and the story would be centered on their story, their love for each other and how they fight the various elements that threaten to seperate them or destroy that love such as evil wizards, evil creatures. Also can you even invent your own creature? Maybe think up of a new creature noone has ever thought of before. So you can try thinking about these creatures beyond the traditional, normal, cliched way they are seen and thought of as...if that is allowed by your teacher, or to the extent of what your teacher allows you to. Check with your teacher.
Just maybe for inspiration there is a book called Book of Imaginary Beings by Jorge Luis Borges.
Gnomes. I love gnomes. I always get the urdge to steal my mother's neighbor's gnome because it's in this sexy pose, but I keep myself from doing. ahahahha
