What is gram negative/positive bacterial infection?

Hi my mom has been in the hospital sense last tuesday, she had surgery and where it was done became infected. I have tried to look up information on the web but I am confused. My mother has been diagnosed with either gram negative or gram positive bacterial disease, what is this? What does it do to you? Is it deathly? If so whats your percent? Please help I am very nervous. Thank you

Gram negative bacteria is bad. Streptococcus for an example is a gram negative bacteria. It usually occurs in hospital thus they called it “nosocomial infection” which means it is hospital acquired infections. Your mom was easily proned to bacterial infection and hospital is a breeding ground for that. I just hope she gets well fast and get out of there. Hospital is not a place to be when you’re sick. Also, she might also be at risk for infective endocarditis, which is infection of the heart muscle. That can be pretty fetal. But with antibiotic use these days, the bacteria can be kept under control. I hope it’s nothing too bad, best of luck to your mom.
