What does this mean

My friend went on a thing 2 calculate if she is overwheight or not and it said this…”you are in the range that is classified as obese and your health would greatly benefit from a life-long reduction in weight.”…what does that mean? Will you help me?!, does it mean shes overweight or not??? Thnx

Answer #1

Ithink that means that your friend is not obese, but should have a healthy life style. sometimes things like that use words that are not needed.

Answer #2

obese is when you have a BMI of 30 or above. it’s a certain amount of weight over the healthy range. being obese will affect your health a lot.

here’s some link about how obesity can affect health: http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=11760 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obesity http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/obesity/index.htm

Answer #3

it’s you BMI scale it hase 4 or 5 different catogories extremely underweight, underwheight, average, overwheight and obese it calcualtes your height and weight together and creates a total this is a number and then you comapre it to the scale im 21.2 and that is in the overweight section but the one thing is that it doesnt bring muscle into the calculations it just works out the body mass index so your friend probly aint even fat.

Answer #4

If she uses the same webpage and enters in a lower weight each time until it says that she is within the normal range for her height, she will then be able to work out how much weight she needs to lose.

Just reduce the weight entries that she puts into the website calculator by about 3lbs each time until you get to this point.

The way to lose weight is to follow a healthy diet along with regular exercise and a good dose of willpower. She should not try and lose it too quickly, no more than a pound or two per week.

Once she is down to her ideal weight, she will need to adapt her eating habits to keep the weight off.

It really is as simple as that.

Answer #5

yes it does mean she is over weight. if she cuts out some of the fatty/junk foods if she eats them then she will lose weight and will be fine and will reduce to a healthy weight. good luck x

Answer #6

I just wanted to point out naomijessicalove that the BMI is a medically aknowledged guide to establish if someone is within a range of extremely underweight, underwheight, average, overwheight and obese.

Because each of these descriptions has quite a wide range, it allows for diffent levels of muscle/body fat.

Your comments are less helpful than the readings emem has obtained from the BMI calculator.

It is generally those with eating disorders that chose to just ignore these BMI calculations as they contradict what they believe about themselves.

In such cases, they will only chose to believe those who actively agree and support their belief that they are overweight even when they can often be dangerously underweight and unhealthy.

Answer #7

yes its sayin that if she dosent change her eating patterns she will be seriouly over weight
