What could be the possible reasons why he would want a baby?

I’m smart and stuff, but I have not really understood why some guys would want to have a baby. My boyfriend, or whatever he’s called, he’s more than just a boyfriend, told me today (but he’s told me this many times before) that he wants to have a baby. I asked why and he said because…and I wanted to know why, and he said there’s reasons for it…hmm…I’m stumped, he won’t tell me why. I’m thinking it’s because he really doesn’t have a family. He has half brothers that he doesn’t talk to, rarely sees his dad, and his mom who he lives with, goes out and gets drunk a lot, and he’s always alone, accept when he’s with me and my family. I think that’s why…but I’m gonna ask him later…but I feel bad if that’s the reason. Do you think that this is the possible reason?
