What to do? I am a budhist and my boy friend is a catholic

I am thilzz nineteen years of age and have a boy friend. Am a budhist and my boy friend is a catholic. My parents dont want me to go out with him anymore as he a catholic. I cant break up with him just because my parents want me t.. How can I convince m parents ? Will it be posible for me to ? Will I have to stop this? ( oh ni that’s impossible) please tell me what can I do??? Am totally helpless…

Funny thing - I know exactly what you are talking about.

I’m a Buddhist, and when I started dating my hubby, he was a catholic.

Now, my parents didn’t have a problem with it, but his did. Naturally, as an adult, he decided for himself and we’re still together years later - he has also turned away from his Catholicism (by no fault of mine).

Your parents, if they are Buddhists, should know better - they are passing judgment and that goes against everything the Buddhist belief revolves around. Tell them quite simply that they will have to weather this as all Buddhists have done for centuries - with patient acceptance.

Well, if you’re nineteen you have a say in the matter. You can do what you want, you’re more than capable to make your own decisions right? Tell them that.
