What are three examples & effects of shear, compresion, &tension?

I need an answer based on Plate Tectonics. This is about the Earth sliding apart &pressing together.

Answer #1

Those are standard engineering terms that are considered when building. Compression causes Mountains like when India smashed into Europe and caused the Himalayan Mountains. It could also cause subduction when one plate slides under another one.

Shear force is when one thing moves horizontally while the other thing remains stationary. Think of an earthquake and a tall building, the earth moves and the building doesn’t. Not good for the building.

Tension is a pulling force. When two things move in opposite directions. In land forms this might cause a rift which might look like a canyon.
