What are the requirements on emancipation for a 17yr old in ohio?

I’m a 17 year old girl and I wish to be emancipated. My home life is fine, I live with my mom who does no drugs and does not abuse me. My understanding is that a 17 year old and become emancipated if they have a job. I’m am currently looking for on. Once I get a job, am I able to be emancipated without parental consent? If I need parental consent, then how does all that work? Do we need to show up I court, or is it a legal document our attorney makes up? Also, I understand that I will need to pay my own bills once I get my own place. Do I need my license in order to move out?

Answer #1

ok first of all…why? one more year will not hurt. Use that time to get a job and save your money before you just try to jump into the world. Its not as easy as it sounds trust me you want to use all the time you can to save money first.

Answer #2

Emancipation typically only works if there’s just cause for it - abusive home, etc.
