Ohio emancipation

I understand that an 18 year old is legally considered an adult even if still in high school. What happens if this child decides to move out of parents house before graduation? Are parents liable financially? Can this child be legally emancipated in the state of Ohio?

Answer #1

I’m pretty sure once you are 18-years-old you can legally move to wherever you want. It depends on the laws there, they differ from place to place. Here in Ontario you can move out at age 16-years-old.

Hmm in Ohio the age of majority is at graduation. I dont know if you can move out without their permission. If you do move out I dont see why they would have to support you? You probably could be emancipated, but it would depend on your reasons for wanting to do so and whether or not you can support yourself… Call the dept of family and children services, they can answer your questions better and can refer you to legal aid…
