what are the athletic effects on your body of being on the pill?

hi there! here is my situation: I want to go on the pill, BUT I am a pretty involved athlete in taekwondo, and compete nationally at the moment, and internationally (hopefully) next year. taekwondo is a weight orientated sport (mostly) and every little bit counts. Also, I am about to start the paleo diet with my boyfriend, who also competes. The paleo diet swtiches your bodies system from burning carbs to burning fat, and therefore drops you down to your natural weight (which will be immensly helpful for taekwondo). my question is : will the contraceptive pill have any bearing on my weight, or athletic ability, and will it effect the paleo diet (that being no sugar, no carbs, no saturated fats, nothing processed).

Any advise from anyone in the know, or simply an opinion would be awesome. thanks! xx

Easy answer here… Being that you are so athelticy inclined and active the pill should have little to Zero effect on you. as always your period my be slighty erractic, thus causing PMS at un scheduled times, but In your case the pill should not cause any type of weight gain or negative effects on your abilities!

The pill is estrogen or estrogen + progesterone.

One of the effects of estrogen is reduced muscle mass. See link for other things increased and decreased in weight.

Answer #3

Since you are so healthy already, you probably (Most likely) won’t have ANY side effects at all. And surferjoe is correct that estrogen can reduce muscle mass, but the pills today don’t really contain enough estrogen to be that dangerous to you.
