Is it weird to talk to your dog like it's human?

IF you have one ?

Answer #1

. No it is not weird in my opinion. It is quite common and totally understandable. A pet dog usually considers itself to be one of the family and frequently behaves like a loving child - so they tend to get treated that way. . Treating a dog (or similar non-human creature or thing) like a human, or attributing human characteristics to is called “ anthropomorphism “. .

Answer #2

No. It is not weird to talk to any pet like it’s human. Be it a dog, a cat, a hamster or a goldfish. People talk to their pets all of the time.

That is a reason to have pets in the first place: For having company. For having someone who listens to you, whatever rubbish you feel like talking about.

It gets weird when you actually start believing that your pet understands everything you say, even if you read the newspaper to him/her or tell him about some complicated love triangle or anything like it.

Answer #3

I just now realized that I guess I do do that sometimes, but I don’t go in depth with it, It’s not wierd. (I don’t think)

Answer #4

yes it’s :P> like i do to my cat xD> and ants :P> well then not :D>

Answer #5

Well if talking to your pets is weird…I’d have to rank myself, the weirdest of the bunch. As for what you say and how much they understand of what you say. I don’t believe they know what your words mean, but I do believe they do understand vibrational tone and because they do consider themselves part of the family they do understand your emotions in your tone that identifys sad, joy, excitment, fear, anger, etc.

Answer #6

Lol, not at all. It could help build a closer relationship with it. It’s like talking to a baby or someone who doesnt speak your language, they don’t understand, but it’s stimulating and exciting to be interacted with.

Answer #7

Not at all/

Answer #8

Answer #9

Breaking out in full conversation and saying things like “alright sweetheart how was your day?” or “what you fancy watching on telly tonight?”

Wierd no, thats borderline psychopath but just calling it by it’s name, stop it, come here and stuff like it isn’t weird.

Answer #10

“… saying things like “alright sweetheart how was your day?” …” brilliant. Shame you didn’t add “ beg for it bitch “.

Answer #11

I hope it doesn’t make me a “borderline psychopath”, because I do it all of the time. Whenever I volunteer at the local rescue shelter, we have to take each dog for a 15-20 minute walk. I’m usually alone and it’s a pretty deserted area, so I always end up talking to the dogs (I even explained Psychoanalysis to a dog that was named Sigmund). Whenever I still lived at home I would talk to my dog if I was home alone. Instead of talking to myself to voice out a problem or ponder something that’s stressing me, I explain it to my dog. I knew he couldn’t understand me, but I still talked to him because voicing out my problems would help me solve them. You also get so used to a pet being around and you feel like they’re just another member of your family, so I guess it just gets to the point where you talk to them as if they were another human.
