What does it mean when I see on this web page "Followers"?
a person is following you?
In a way it means someone has added you as a friend. If your profile was set to private, then the person will be able to see your profile.
Also they recieve an alert when you ask or answer a question

If you look in the lower right corner of your profile page, you can see who’s following you and follow them back if you want or follow others
Followers = people who are following you Following = people you are following Friends = people who you are following who are following you back
