Yes to get faster you need to build up endurance and run every morning or whenever you do it and then go longer everyday. And you do need to build up your muscles in the legs.
A good way that helps to is running hills, but if you are bigger it could be hard in the knees so then you could just do high knees up th e hill which has the same outcome.
The right shoes to start..the lighter the shoe the better...Try practicing running with your back straight instead of bent over.. The straighter the better. Practice with these tips and see how you improve. Time yourself running how you were before this change then time yourself after...See the changes...Good luck
Another tip would be to run up and down either your stairs in your home or the bleathers at your high school or a local high school that will build you leg strength
Work up to it. Practice. And weight- to some extent- doesn't determine fitness.
go to gym..........work hard.........and do atleast 6 to 8 km of running daily
pratice and eat things that will give u energy and work out
work on cardio and eat not for pleasure but for performance
if you build the muscle on your legs that helps too
