How do you take a video off a DVD, and burn it to another (blank) DVD on a mac?

My mother is a pianist and recently played in a performance somewhere, the man who hosted it had a video camera and made it into DVDs, one of which he gave to my mother. She wants to make copies of the DVD and I have tried a thousand times to do it but it’s not working!

I have the file off the original DVD on my desktop, it’s just as a folder with 2 folders inside it, one ‘audio’ that is empty and one ‘visual’ which has some files that cannot open, and 3 files of the performance cut in thirds. When I play the video files, they do have sound even though the audio file seems to be empty. When I drag and drop this whole file into a blank disk and click ‘burn’ it burns it, but then when I check, there is nothing on the disk. I thought maybe it’s my laptop so I put the (burned) disk into our desktop mac and it just spat it out :S

All I want to do is make a copy of the DVD. Which by the way isn’t copyrighted so it’s legal right?

Please tell me how (or tell me what I need to download) to burn the DVD, many thanks.
