What do you understand about The NAME ... YHVH or YHWH and it's significance in the days past, present, future tense?

Answer #1

The past? Confused people in the desert.

The present? Religious nutballs the world over who haven’t studied one fig of history.

The future? 40% of Americans truly believe Jesus is coming by 2050…so, in the year 2051, I fully expect an EXPLOSION of aetheists in my home country…as they finally wake up from their disillusion.

Answer #2

Kinda uncalled for wording there dude. You can offend a lot of people with that

Answer #3

Sorry lemme unpack that for a minute.

Linguistics, names, CAN’T possibly influence faith, salvation or belief. It’s impossible. G-d or GOD, or Allah, or Buddha…most holy books agree that if you think & do bad things, you’re doomed - or at least, not going to the super special place.

SO….given all that WHY would any amount of pontification of a single word have ANY Impact whatsoever on the potential belief, faith, afterlife, or success of an individual?

As well claim that those who say Jesus in Spanish (pronounced hesus…) or Dios, instead of God, are going to hell. Sorry, not happening.

Pontification and obsession over linguistic nuance is NOT faith, never has been, never will be. That’s what I meant in my first reply.

Answer #4

Jeremy, I think that if every failed end-of-the-world prediction brought about ‘an explosion of atheists’ we would have run out of religious nut-jobs. But I can always hope.

Answer #5

so apparently you have no answer to the question only you prefer to use it as some sort of platform to voice religious beliefs. I was looking for some knowledge about the subject. here I come again google ~

Answer #6

Likage :)

Answer #7

Ok, let’s see:

  1. It’s hebrew (BUT, you knew that prior to posting).
  2. Yaweh (as it’s written now…) means “Lord” or “God”…but, it really depends on if you have a PhD in humanities, or Hebrew, to do that much or better.
  3. Used in the old testament of the bible…the de@dsea scrolls, as well.
  4. Given that it’s a reference to the creator, unless you SPEAK that language, and understand the modern variants of the same terms and know about linguistic shift…

…you can’t understand what it means. Nor can I :)

  1. The folks who used that term, wrote that language, routinely took psychadelic substances as part of their religious practice. Therefore, cultural anthropologists have a TON of evidence that suggests the prophets who were talking to God were, in fact, soaring like kites.

That’s all I got…I took a humanities course in college and yep, it was recent article from a cultural anthropologist who discussed the psychadelics (from Israel, if that means anything).

Answer #8

Oh come now Jeremy, you know that rationalizing is the one defense mechanism they have down pat. They’ll simply say they got the math wrong. And then put down another time frame (out of curiosity, why 2050?)

Answer #9

The ineffable-unutterable NAME was removed over 6,800 times from Old and New Testament. This NAME above every other that seems to pose a threat “has influenced the faith of many”, some even attempt to and build their beliefs around the significance. It comes to me in dreams. In fact, I saw it in a dream first; then set out to learn as much as possible about it. Some attempt to pronounce it and have denominations named for them because it is central to the very core of their belief systems. Historically speaking, The NAME (HaShem) or ADONAI (out of respect) for YHVH … YHWH … and other variations of same, attracts those who would know The Creator of all that was, is and yet to come regardless of doubters or scoffers opinions. Hang the “afterlife” or “special place”; I’m more interested in what YHVWH has to say about what the real deal is going to be. I use translations from Hebrew,Aramaic And use Wikipedia, Google,Encyclopedia et al. I was hoping someone could add more for my story I am doing today on my blog. You would probably enjoy it. It encourages contribution from all thinking people and paradigms including The Rainbow Warriors, RastafarI,Native Americans, every faith and paradigm. The focus is on what we all seem to share in common - like the universe, galaxy, planet, self, one another, trees, seas, everything. It is not my intention to preach or try to sway anybody’s opinion. I just like to learn. Much of what you said has truth to it. Much of what I seek has yet to be shared. your friend, Karin

Has the Apocalypse been moved back to 2050 now? I must have missed that…we didn’t even get to 2012 yet and they already changed it? Usually they wait for an apocalyptic suspense to bust before rescheduling it.

Answer #11

Hahaha! Well, the thing that always gets me is that the book of Revelations actually says that no one will predict the day of God’s return, and the beginning of the apocalypse. So why do these crazy religious people try so hard to pinpoint the time of the apocalypse. If I were them, I’d wake up every morning saying “It’s not going to be today.”

Answer #12

I hope you know that saying the name of G-d in vane is sin, also publishing in a world wide site where anyone can print this page with his holy name on it….G-d has many names, but the names of G-d in Hebrew are the most important..and the Tetragrammaton is the MOST important of all..never to be written or mention..and its just offensive how you just throw it out there like nothing world wide..its just the worst you could have done

Answer #13

It should be remembered and made known by all who grasp the significance

Answer #14

it’s funny, you never hear anyone say HOLY POPE!
